Diet and dating, a British ban on goodbye kisses | Dating in the News
More dating in the news:
- “Is it shallow to consider diet while dating?” (Helena Echlin’s awesome Table Manners column, Chow.com).This reminded me of my Valentine’s Day poll.
- “Bring back British romance!” (The School of Life blog). Apparently Virgin Rail is banning kissing at drop-off points near train stations. There seems to be so much symbolism in the company name and the fact they made the decision around Valentine’s Day. Take a cold shower and think of England?

It is so NOT shallow to consider eating habits when deciding whether someone is a good match. Or, OK, it’s shallow, but it still makes sense if some aspect of food is really important to you. Whatever you can be flexible about is great, but if you can’t, you might as well be honest about it. The other person MAY eventually grow to be more like you, but if you’re counting on that, you aren’t being fair to either of you.
A saw an online-dating profile where the guy said, “My partner would be a … person who eats well and keeps fit…. This may be a goal as yet unreached, but it should be on the agenda. Two people pulling the wagon in opposite directions is dysfunctional.”
I like that last sentence.
(I also liked a lot of other stuff about him, but, unfortunately, after a few emails, he became exclusive with someone else. Sigh.)
